Leonard A. Deutsch, III
"Chip"
Once upon a time, long about 1998, I went to work for a little,
and I mean a little, place called Northwest Regional
Communications.   Often times referred to by myself as "the little
center that could," Northwest was one of seven  9-1-1
emergency communication centers located in Allegheny County,
Pennsylvania.

On March 30, 2005, Northwest Regional closed its doors,
merging its operations with Allegheny County 9-1-1.    Although
I was offered a new job in the merger, it was still a very sad day
for me indeed.  For almost six years, Northwest had become a
part of me.

Call")

In my new role, I am a Lead TCO for what many are calling the
10th largest 9-1-1 center in the country.   Allegheny County
9-1-1 continues to expand its operations on a daily basis.

When one works in a 9-1-1 center, he/she learns very quickly
that there is no right or wrong answer to life's little unexpected
events.    Just learn to do the best you can with what you are
given and move on.   Wow, how poetic.

For whatever reason, and no matter how many excuses I am
given to hate the art form that is 9-1-1, I still like too many things
about it to give it up.  I've just invested so much time and effort, I
refuse to allow myself to think negatively about it.     Plus,  I get
to help people... blah blah blah... and, that's always a good thing,
right?

I graduated from
Point Park University in 1999 with a degree
in Journalism.   I always wanted to broadcast, however I never
thought it be on such a small scale.  Sorry, Mom.   Hopefully,
one day, I will get lucky and hit it big.   For now, though, I'm just
sitting back and taking it all in.

Recently,  I have returned to Point Park in search of my MBA.
People keep asking me why.  My answer is simple, really.   I
know in my heart that I have been put on this Earth to do big
things, and I am hoping to find those things in the classroom.  Not
to mention the fact that life just gets boring after a while, and one
has to prove to himself that he can do more than just listen to a
screaming public all day.  Now it is time to start thinking about a
Ph. D.

With that...

May God bless you, your families, and may God continue to
bless the United States of America.
